Prill Tower Removal Demolition

This project was very interesting, each floor of the tower had to be removed in sections. These sections had to meet the loads for a crane chart of a Liebherr LTM 1250-5.1.

Prill Tower

There were five floors to be removed at 215’-0” in the air. Demolition is always precarious; weights of equipment and floors are never what they seem. Drawings were supplied but from the 1950’s, but were they correct? Could the wide flanges supporting the building be correct on the drawings or could they be heavier? Cladding and cross bracing could also be incorrect or different in weights. Bird faeces and rust build up alone added extreme weight to the structure over the years. The five floors came down independently and were heavy but within tolerance of the Liebherr LTM 1250-5.1 load charts.

Demolition is a service Formula/Bradley provides to Demolition Contractors requiring Engineering Services. There have been services provided for hoisting 12 Ton excavators onto buildings to remove floors, one at a time.
